Karl “Nick” Dobrzelecki, Founder/CEO of Daymarck
Karl “Nick” Dobrzelecki is the founder and chief executive officer of Daymarck, a company dedicated exclusively to providing accurate, compliant medical coding and coding consulting services to the home healthcare industry. Dobrzelecki is a senior-level executive who launched Daymarck with nearly 20 years of experience in the home healthcare and healthcare industries.
Prior to founding Daymarck, Dobrzelecki served as Performance Improvement Coordinator for Ohio-based Kettering Medical Center, a large, hospital based, non-profit home care agency. At Kettering, he was responsible for the total quality management of the home care agency; ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations; medical center and agency defined policies and procedures; and accreditation requirements.
While at Kettering, Dobrzelecki was recognized in the Home Health Care Management and Practice journal for his accomplishments including significant improvement in quality outcomes, and leveraging data and implementing specific programs targeting the data points to determine areas of opportunity for quality improvement. His accomplishments included:
- Increasing the agency’s HealthInsight’s National Home Health Percentile rank from the bottom quartile to the top quartile in just 16 months.
- Implementing an interactive clinician assessment within the agency to assure accuracy and consistence of data among agency clinicians for the OASIS assessment documentation. Results increased average case mix from 1.117 to 1.43 and increasing payment and opportunity to improve quality outcome scores.
- Implementing a disease management follow up phone call program targeting patients who were at high risk of re-hospitalization. Results significantly reduced the rehospitalization of these patients targeted in 16 months:
- Diabetic patients from 47.3% to 28.2%
- CHF patients from 51.7% to 31.4%
- COPD patients from 57.5% to 24.88%
- Overall rehospitalization rate decreased from 33.5% to 22.8%
Before joining Kettering Medical Center, Dobrzelecki served as one of the Director’s of Nursing for the Home Care Network, a small regional proprietary home care agency. In this position, he was responsible for many aspects of the day to day including insurance authorizations, documentation review, budget and marketing because of the challenges of running a smaller agency with little back office support.
Prior to his service at Home Care Network, Dobrzelecki worked as Home Service Facilitator for State of Ohio Medicaid Waiver program where he was a case manager, overseeing 80-100 patient caseload. In this position, he was responsible for determining the necessity of homecare services, facilitating the process for patient accessing, and receiving homecare services to include nursing visits, aide services and a variety of therapies.
Dobrzelecki began his career in health care as a Firefighter/EMT for Sugarcreek Township Fire Department; a clinical staff nurse at Evans Army Community Hospital, in Ft. Carson and the 10th Combat Support Hospital, in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Assistant Head Nurse Irwin Army Hospital, Ft Riley. He also performed the non-traditional Army nurse duties as the Assistant Operations Officer/Security Officer for the 10th Combat Support Hospital upon return from Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Dobrzelecki holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, where he was commissioned as an Army Officer through Army ROTC. Dobrzelecki is a Registered Nurse and is a Home Care Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) certified.
